Literature Text

She was told that goblins didn't exist and that fairies weren't real.  She tried to tell them that that wasn't true; that they were real.  She wanted to show them that magic existed, but they wouldn't believe her.

That was when she made a wish; a simple wish on a star so high that everyone- for one single moment- would see the magic she believed in and be truly happy for a fleeting moment.

She didn't see her wish come true.

The little girl died one cold December night from a high fever.  Her family was extremely sad by her passing and buried her in a simple, but lovely, garden.  Years passed by and numerous flowers bloomed across her grave, but still, the magic that she wished for did not come to pass.

Ten years after the little girl's passing, another little girl moved into the house that the previous girl's family lived in.  She was sad and lonely, but upon moving into the deceased girl's room, she found something.

A charm necklace lay forgotten in the corner of the room, and once the little girl put it on she saw that it was a locket.  She opened the locket and found a note inside.  As she read it, she found that what it said was most peculiar.

I wish for everyone to see magic.

Upon reading the note, the little girl felt a surge of curiosity awaken in her.  She began reading fairytale books and asking for wizened old men to tell her stories about epic quests and adventures.  She asked elderly women to tell her about mermaids and ogres, and she went so far as to hunt for magic in her large, forested yard.  She wanted to see the strange wish come true, and when she found the little girl's grave in a lovely garden, she was surprised to find the same wish as in the note on her headstone.

After discovering the grave, the little girl returned home and that night she wished very hard upon a star so high that magic would reveal itself to all.  She wanted the other little girl's wish to come true, for it was now her wish.

As she fell asleep, she dreamed about fairies dancing in the simple little garden and goblins trying to catch them.  She dreamed about mermaids splashing in a pond nearby and ogres trying to snatch them.  She dreamed about unicorns and elves, of warriors and wizards, of a dragon so large that it blocked out the sky.  She dreamed of magic covering the earth in a golden dust so beautiful and bright.

When she awoke from her magical dream, she peered out her window and at the blue sky.  Turning her head to look out over the lawn, her eyes widened in surprise.

Purple frost covered the ground, glistening in the cold sunlight.  Three-toed footprints rested in the frost and tiny pinpricks were sporadic on the frozen grass.

It was a magical sight and her little brother and sister came running into her room, exclaiming that they saw tiny fairies flittering around the room.  Even her parents talked about the unusual purple frost and for a single moment, everyone saw magic.

As the day wore on, however, the purple frost melted away and the footprints disappeared.  The magic that was obvious before was now gone, and soon the incident was forgotten.

The little girl never forgot, however.  She continued to remember the purple frost and hold on tightly to the charm necklace she had found.  She would never forget, and for as long as she lived she would tell of the time she saw magic as colored frost.

This is just a quick story for this month, and I used three words that my friend gave me.  They were purple, frost, and charm.  I hope you enjoy!
